Paper Dice Space Game

FacebookTwitter
Spanish version

Are you doing a space theme and looking for a fun way to teach some space vocabulary to kids? Look no further! Here’s a fun, FREE printable space game that kids will have a blast making and playing. First they make the dice, then they play the game and race to be the first to complete a line of meteors!

The game practises the words astronaut, rocket, moon, planet, star and alien.

This resource is definitely what I class as a “craftivity” as it is more than a simple craft – it can also be used as a playful educational activity. Before they make it themselves, I introduce a pre-made version of the game to my kids. We go through the vocabulary and play a few rounds of the game. Then I give them each a copy of the game to make and take home – we usually play a few more rounds if there’s time at the end of class.

I have other SPACE related resources that you may like to check out – see the end of the post for more.

How to play the Paper Dice Space Game

1: Print page 1 on white card for best results.  Cut out the dice (young children may need some help with this).

2: Print page 2 on normal printer paper. Colour and cut the picture boxes. Paste the picture boxes over the correct words on the dice.

3. Make folds on all the dotted lines of the dice, and use glue or double sided sticky tape on the tabs to stick the sides of the dice together. This is a bit tricky and young children will need help.

4. Print page 3 on normal printer paper (or print on card and laminate if you want to re-use the boards). Give one playing board to each player. Take it in turns to throw the dice and cross out (or colour-in) a meteor above whatever the dice shows. For example, if you throw “astronaut”, cross out a meteor above the astronaut on the playing board. The first player to cross out all five meteors for any space word wins!

5. I use this game to teach space-themed vocabulary and encourage speaking. Depending on their age, I ask my students to either say the word they have rolled, or use the word in a simple sentence, for example “I’ve got a rocket”, or “The planet is red”.
