Easy Valentine Craft: Adorable Puppy Love Valentine’s Day Card for Kids

Here’s an easy Valentine craft that’s perfect for 5 to 7-year-olds! Kids will absolutely love creating this cute puppy holding a heart bone with a special message. They can take it home as it is or pop it in an envelope to give as a heartfelt Valentine’s card to their loved ones.

You can download a FREE template for the puppy at the end of the post. If you’re making this craft with one or two children, you can print out the individual template, cut out the pieces, and trace them onto coloured card stock. For classrooms or groups, there’s a special groups template that I’ve designed so you can print the parts directly onto coloured card stock, saving you both time and effort.

Supplies

White, brown, black and red card stock
Googly eyes or small, round white stickers
Black pen
Glue & scissors
Optional: glittery card or craft foam

How to make the Puppy Love – Easy Valentine Craft:

1. Download the template: Scroll to the end of the post to download the free template. Choose the Individual template or the Groups template based on your needs.

2. Print and cut: Print the template pieces and cut them out. I used white card stock for the body, head, and tail, brown card for the ears and snout, red card for the bone base, and glittery red craft foam for the hearts.

3. Assemble the snout: Apply glue to the snout only where indicated in the photo. Make sure kids don’t apply glue all over, otherwise the puppy won’t be able to hold the bone in its mouth!

4. Build the face: Stick the snout, ears, and eyes onto the head. Cut a small oval from black card stock for the nose and attach it to the snout.

5. Fold the body: Fold the body along the middle dotted line, then fold the front and back feet forward along the smaller dotted lines. Younger children may need a little help with this step.

6. Attach the head and tail: Stick the head onto the body. Fold the base of the tail and attach it to the back of the puppy as shown. Draw some lines on the paws.

7. Create the heart bone: Now the puppy is done, it’s time to make the heart bone! Glue a heart to each end of the bone base. Encourage kids to write a short Valentine message on the bone, such as “Love” or “I love you,” or simply write their own name or the name of someone special.

8. Finishing up: Tuck the bone into the puppy’s snout. Now, the puppy is ready to deliver its adorable Valentine message!

9. Optional Valentine card: If you’d like to turn this craft into a card, children can write a message inside the puppy and pop it into an envelope.
