Winter Clothes Spinner Game

FacebookTwitter

Teach your kids winter clothes words with a fun, FREE printable spinner game. Make the spinner, then play and see who is the first to complete a line of snowflakes!

This winter-themed spinner game is a fun and effective way to engage your young students in learning vocabulary related to winter clothing. It not only makes the process of learning vocabulary enjoyable, but also really enhances retention through interactive play and lots of repetition.

To play the game, children take turns spinning the clip on the spinner and identifying the item of winter clothing it lands on. Invite them to say the word aloud, or practice using the word in a sentence before colouring a corresponding snowflake on their board (see game instructions below).

You can also encourage creativity and engagement by including challenges such as miming how to wear the clothing item, or for older children you could ask them to spell the word out loud or say the word backwards!

How to make and play the Winter Clothes Spinner Game:

To make the game you need:

  • Cardstock for printers
  • Crayons, play dough or dry erase markers to mark the cards
  • Split pins and paper clips (or a fidget spinner) to make the spinner.
  • A way to laminate game pieces (not essential but highly recommended)

This game is designed for 4-8 year-olds. The DIY spinner requires small parts which may constitute a choking hazard.

Always supervise young children when playing with DIY spinners.

Instructions:

1: Choose a spinner disc and print on card. Choose “actual size” from your printer settings. There is a large disc (which you can use with fidget spinners), and a smaller disc included. You can make one spinner per group, or one per child. Colour and laminate for durability if you wish.

2: Print as many game boards as you need on card or normal printer paper. You can colour and laminate the boards if you want to re-use them.

3. Give one game board to each player. Children spin the spinner in turn and colour a snowflake above whatever the spinner shows. For example, if they spin “scarf”, they colour a snowflake above the scarf on the game board. If you laminate the boards, children can put blobs of plasticine on the snowflakes instead. The first player to colour all five snowflakes for any item of clothing wins!

I hope you enjoy this free Winter Clothes Spinner Game. It’s a great addition to any winter themed lesson plan and can help make learning vocabulary more dynamic and engaging for students – especially if you add in some fun challenges for older kids!
